1 . Location
-Belong to Hoai Duc District, Hanoi. It is 15 km away from Hanoi centre.
-Square: 50,979 ha
-Population: 9,870
-Poor households: 108
2 . Climate
This region has four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
The temperature ranges from 15 degree in winter to 40 degree in
summer. Summer has a great rain rate, up to 340mm in July and August.
3 . Transportation
Almost all roads in the villages are made of cement. The inhabitants
of Duc Thuong support the cost for making and repairing roads.
Sixty percent of the households have a motorbike. In general,
children go to school by bicycle and parents go to work by motorbike.
There are two bus-connections with Hanoi centre, starting from 5AM until 9
PM
4 . Economy
The main job of people in Duc Thuong is farming. The agriculture products
are rice and corn. 80% of people have extra jobs, like mason or selling things
in markets of Hanoi.
5 . Life standard:
Thanks to being located near Hanoi, people living in Duc Thuong have
a slightly higher living standard compare to other regions where Donxa
conducts projects.
6 . Houses
-People here just have 100-150 square meters to live. About 70% of people
have medium standard of tiled house. A house normally includes 2-3 rooms
connecting to each other and one more bedroom. The furniture is limited to
one or two beds, a table and some chairs.
-The kitchen, the bathroom and the well are next to each other.
There is an extra room to keep agriculture equipments or old things.
-Almost all the households have electricity and a drilled-well. Water here
has the high rate of Fe and Mg. The water has yellow color, and bad smell.
Therefore, people use drilled-well water just for bathing and washing. They
made a cement tank to keep rainwater.
7 . Lifestyle
– People unite strongly in the community. The relationship among
neighbours and relatives is very important. On the important occasions
like a wedding, funeral, or the birth of a baby, the family held parties and
invited all relatives and neighbours. The ones who take part in the parties
will give the owner envelopes with money inside-like presents. To many
poor families-that kind of parties is very important but also a burden for
them as they have to give the money as presents.
8 . Donxa’s Project in Duc Thuong:
-Financial Adoption: to help poor children go to school with the purpose
to improve the education in this region and bring children chances to have
better future.
-Laisind Cow breeding project: with the purpose to help poor people
improve their economy. Donxa provide cows, instruct technique, and help
farmers solve difficulties in breeding cows.
-Purified water project: After testing the water and seeing the rate of metal in
water here was very high, Donxa implemented the “Purified Water Project”
to provide purified water for students. The project was conducted in Duc
Thuong Primary School.
