All residents from Phuong Vinh hamlet know Doan, a 70-year-old woman, raising four little grandchildren. She should have lived happily and enjoyed her old age; however, her life was turned up side down when her two sons died 3 years ago. The loss created such a massive hole in her, her young daughters-in-law, and her little grandchildren lives. Her first daughter-in-law then left the two children for her, one was 6 and the other was 2.

Four orphans in our family
The 70-year-old lady is not only the breadwinner for a family of 6 but also the moral support for her family.
The old lady looked very sad when Tet was coming
In Tet 2010, when everybody was gladly receiving gifts under a Donxa program called Financial Adoption Program, the old lady still looked very sad. One woman seeing her with lots of gifts said, “You must be very happy because you have got so many gifts”. The lady suddenly busted out to tears moaning: “I feel thankful for the presents I received but you can never know how hard it is. No one wants to be in my situation. Because my sons were unlucky dying at their young age, I am now suffering…” Her words quieted everybody in the People Committee’s hall and they all expressed their empathy to the old lady.
