Sponsored by Donxa, an NGO from Belgium through Hanoi Relief Association for Disabled Children, 14 disabled children from poor commune in Soc Soc will be given free surgeries by the Institute of Orthopedics – Rehabilitation.
The children that were given free surgeries this time mostly suffer from serious injuries in legs. Roby Bauweraerts, a representative of Donxa, said that Donxa was named after a village called Don Xa in Nam Dinh province in 1995 where they did their first project. From then on, Donxa has conducted a number of humanitarian aid activities in the medical and educational field to help children from many villages in the North of Vietnam. The sponsorship for the Soc Soc disabled children project is 5,000 EURO (about 100 million VND), which includes surgery expense and post-operation rehabilitation treatment. Donxa hopes that after the operation and treatment, the children can go to school and live normal lives like other children so that they can solve their own problems and help their family and society.
Mr Nguyen Trieu Hai, President of Disabled Children’s Association, said there are about 100 handicapped children who need to be operated, 400 need orthopedic treatment and supporting orthopedic equipments, all of which cost about 1 billion VND, and therefore they have to depend on humanitarian organizations and individuals like Donxa.
